Portus was the place to gather with friends and explore what remained beyond the rotating doors. Literary scholars and adult fans from all over the globe converged on the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, July 10-13, 2008 for four incredible days of magic.
On behalf of the Portus staff and the HP Education Fanon Board of
Directors, I'd like to thank our attendees, volunteers, and our
special guest speakers for making Portus a magical experience for all.
While the door has been closed, and the mysteries within have been
revealed, the memories and relationships created will endure.
Please mark your calendars to meet up in person again July 18-21, 2009
at HPEF's next event: Azkatraz. Azkatraz will explore the themes of
justice and the choice between what is right and what is easy. This
programming focus brings the backdrop of Alcatraz / Azkaban to the
forefront of the real issues of social justice, gender equality,
tolerance, and due process, as they are reflected in the Harry Potter books and the larger contexts of fandom and the world around us.
Informal Programming plans promise to provide endlessly diverting ways
to understand and interpret Harry Potter's world and the world of
fandom. Proposed events include a History of Wizard Fashion Show, a
ghost tour and Death Eaters' reception on Alcatraz (no Dark Mark
required!), a pre-event Mixer/Mingler on Friday night before our
official start, the return of the highly successful Fandom Swap Meet,
Common Room programming, a special concert to "Wrock the Rock,"
and much more.
While awaiting the start of Azkatraz, the mysteries of Portus may be
experienced time and time again through audio recordings of a variety
of Formal Programming sessions. Please click here
the order form - onsite pricing will be honored through July 31, 2008.
We look forward to seeing you next summer in San Francisco for Azkatraz.
